Dr. Chiara Trovatello is recipient of the Optica Foundation Challenge 2024. The award supports early-career professionals with exceptional ideas to leverage optics and photonics and address global challenges. Chiara has received a US$100,000 prize for her project “Quantum-entangled Photon-pairs On-chip based on Layered Integrated Semiconductors (q-POLIS)”, which addresses the challenge of miniaturizing entangled photon sources using layered semiconductors.
Chiara is currently conducting her research as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow between Columbia University (New York, USA) and Politecnico di Milano, with the goal of developing and characterizing novel low-dimensional platforms as ultracompact sources of quantum light.

The Award Ceremony took place on Sept. 24, 2024, at the Denver Conference Center, during the Frontiers in Optics (FiO) Conference.
